SXC 2016 Dates and Venues Announced

The Scottish Cross Country (SXC) series are delighted to announce the dates and venues for the 2016 series. With six events across the country, the series is set to take in some new sights and old favourites to please all ages and abilities.

The series will be kicking off in style at Laggan Wolftrax trail centre, after a successful event in 2015 following a five year hiatus. The all-weather surface will be a welcome season starter, with the course earning glowing reports in 2015 for the challenging climb and fast, flowing descent.

Dunoon will be the venue for round two, coinciding with the May holiday weekend, when riders can take advantage of heading “doon the watter” and across the ferry from Gourock. It’s an exciting venture West for the SXC series and will be a highlight of the calendar for many. The SXC is working closely with the Dunoon BID project to ensure a great and well supported event on a course which will be natural and interesting.

The third round of the 2016 SXC series will take place on the Commonwealth Games course at Cathkin Braes, and will be a chance for riders to test out the track ahead of the British Championships, to be held there in July 2016. The course will make the most of the classic rocky Cathkin features, with some additional lines being explored.

The series then moves south to Galloway for another return to a classic at Dalbeattie Forest where the courses have been improving year on year with hard work from Stewartry Wheelers. The course will be technical, tight and packed with features which will appeal to all ranges of riders.

Meedies bike Club and Fife Council are working on their course for Round 4. The exact location is still a secret but these guys will be aiming to surpass the great standard set over the last two years.

The final round of the 2016 SXC series will again be Forfar, with Angus Bike Chain teaming up with the Angus Cycling Festival to offer a weekend-long party atmosphere. The course here is natural and exciting, with plenty of climbs and descents to keep riders on their toes. It’s a well-established course which is ever popular with riders and spectators alike.

The location of the Scottish Championships will shortly be announced, which will be run as part of one of the existing 2016 SXC series events.

In July 2016, the SXC association will be running the British Championships at Cathkin Braes in Glasgow.
