FIRST ROUND OF THE 2016 SXC SERIES TO TAKE PLACE AT LAGGAN

The first round of the Scottish Cross Country MTB series takes place this weekend (Sunday 27th March) at Laggan Wolftrax, near Newtonmore.

The event is the first of six mountain bike races which take places across Scotland, attracting top Elite riders to the venues.

The hard wearing course at Laggan is chosen as the series opener, as it will be a tester for riders strength and training over the winter. The course features interesting climbs, followed by exciting, swooping descents through the trees. The course is not only designed for the fast world of elite racing, but also for beginners and riders new to mountain bike racing.

A range of riders will arrive at Laggan, aged from 5 years to almost 70 years old, with a range of skill levels. For new comers, there is a two-lap Taster race which is an introduction to cross country racing and attracts a wide field of competitors. With over 150 entrants so far, the event looks set to exceed last year’s rider numbers.

The ever popular Under 12s races already have over 50 riders entered, with many more expected to turn up on the day to race. Their course is a shortened version of the full trails, with plenty of exciting features to keep the youngest racers entertained.

All categories are open for on the day entry, with the first race of the day setting off at 11am.

Online entry closes on Thursday 24th March at 11pm, with entry open on the race day from 9.30am.
